Amanpuri (in English)

Thailand´s most exclusive resort

Phuket

When Amanpuri was opened in 1988 it was revolutionary: high end luxury with no rooms, just “villas” for each guest, all set on 76 acre headland on it´s own peninsula amidst a tropical palm tree plantation with it´s own private beach. Many competitors have appeared meanwhile but many consider the Amanpuri on Phuket`s southwest coast still as the most exclusive place to be for high end vacationers. Currently it undergoes a thorough renovation and will open again on 1. September 2023. There are 43 villas and 40 pavillions, very secluded, some with garden views, some with partial or complete ocean view depending on the rate-category. Service is exceptional and so is food. There are five options for dining if include the cocktail lounge called Sunset terrace. There is also a good spa and plenty of possibilities for activities at the beach. Non-motorised watersports are free.  PADI-accredited scuba courses are offered and guests can charter one of 20 cruisers, yachts and speedboats available. From the airport it takes about 35 minutes to Amanpuri, to Patong about 45. If you stay for three nights you get free airport transfers (otherwise it is 150 US $ one way) and at arrival you can expect the use of the fast track at the airport. Domestic and international flights frequently land at Phuket International Airport. All in all Amanpuri offers for all those who can afford it a holiday in a tropical paradise with exceptional peace, service, food and privacy.

Endless wisdom in a nutshell

Best Time
Between November and April. The six months between May and October are monsoon season. During monsoon water conditions can be dangerous. Otherwise rates are lower and it never gets cold here.
Best Rate
Rates from about 900 US-$ in the low season, around 1500 in the high season.

Indicative – subject to change.

Best Room
Garden pavillions are a cheaper option, pick pavillion 103 or 105, best ocean views. If a private pool is a must the garden pool pavillion is a good choice or a villa. Architect Ed Tuttle´s villa was 17. Our favourite villa was 45. The biggest one is 34.
Getting there
35 minutes from Phuket airport. You get fast track at the airport. Best option: stay for three nights then transfers are free.
Best Excursion

*If you are a James Bond fan you have to go to the “Bond Island” (from “The man with the golden gun”) but do it in style on a luxury boat without the crowds, enjoy snorkeling and kayaking. Will take you a day.

*A morning with elephants at Phuke Elephant Sanctuary where the animals can live on 30 acres of lush tropical land.

Good for Children
This is more an adult place but nevertheless children are welcome. Under-12s stay free on cots or extra beds. Babysitting is available (from US$12 an hour and $60 a day for one child).
Value for Money
Amanpuri is expensive, no doubt, and some other good five star resorts may be cheaper. But the overall experience and the amount of privacy is worth the money.
Worst Thing
At this price level you might expect a private pool. This is not the case in general here. For those not so sporty anymore: there are a lot of steps.
