Big Game Club Resort & Marina Bimini

Bimini

Bahamas

The Bimini Big Game Club Resort & Marina is a 51-room boutique resort situated close to Alice Town in North Bimini. Founded in the 1930’s as an elegant dinner club and relocated and expanded in 1947 to its current home, the Bimini Big Game Club has a rich history hosting world-class fishermen, avid divers, and dignitaries alike. You may ask: how come? How did these two islands at the edge of the Great Bahama Bank become so popular?
Well, by booze and by fish. In the 20ies, the time of the Prohibition, this was a place to enjoy alkohol legally. And owing to a unique seagrass habitat and endless miles of shallow flats, Bimini is a kind of five star destination for bone fish. So in the 3oies celebrities like author and passionate angler Zane Grey, recluse billionaire Howard Hughes, retail genius Michael Lerner and later Ernest Hemingway turned Bimini into the Big Game Fishing Capital of the World. The main building of the hotel was opened in 1963. Later the Club was acquired by the Bacardi family who managed it for almost 30 years.Today the Big Game Club is not a five star property but the marine life is five star. And the resort itself boasts colourful rooms, cottages and penthouses and it is home to the Bimini Big Game Bar & Grill, Sharkies Bar & Grill, an Outfitter Shop, Neal Watson’s Bimini Scuba Center and, of course, the famous 75-slip full service marina. Mr. Paddington went for the Marlin hunt without success but he was extremely impressed by the bullshark feeding at Big Game Club. Try the iron shark cage if you dare! All in all: Not five star at all but a great place for Game fishing, diving and a drink at the bar.
