Four Seasons Seoul (English)

A five star icon in Korea with a great al fresco bar-restaurant on the 15th floor

Seoul, South Korea

Every luxury hotel brand has its dedicated followers. The Four Seasons Group certainly does. Founded in 1961 in Toronto it has grown to 129 properties in 44 countries (2024) and is owned now with a 71 % percent majority by one of the richest men in the world – no not Elon Musk but the other one: Bill Gates. Fans are convinced that Four Seasons offers impeccable service and value for money, some travel-connosseurs consider it a bit too American

The Four Seasons Seoul, opened in 2015, is a 29 storey steel and glass building designed by Singapore bases architect Su Sin Tao, that does not disappoint. If you look for a pool you find a heated one, light filled, 20 meter long. If you want to immerse in Korean style there is a Korean Sauna which means there are hot water pools like the famous Onsen in Japan. If you you want a variety of restaurants inside the hotel there are a whole bunch (6 restaurants, 2 bars), if you are a sporty person, the fitness center offers 8,772 square feet of exercise, and if you love roof-top bars in summer, have a cocktail at the Garden Terrace on the 15 th floor.

All rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows (though what you see differs of course, the best views are in direction to the Imperial Palace. The main lobby lounge is built around a large circular fireplace, all in front of an ancient bronze map of Korea. Back to the rooms: the bathrooms are outfitted with -mostly- white Italian marble, separate showers, double sinks, tubs with a view and complimentary ammenities by Lorenzo Villoresi. All in all a great hotel in a top-location – including the nearby underground station. Also not far away: the preserved, centuries-old Bukchon Hanok village, with its dainty tea houses and traditional homes.

Getting there
From Incheon Airport a taxi ride takes about 45 minutes (60 km distance). A good choice is the airport bus downtown and from there a taxi (especially in case of traffic digestions much cheaper than a taxi). If you can choose take Gimpo Airport, it is closer (45 min). The hotel provides a limousine transfer if you wish.

Good for Children
There is a good kids’ club where young guests might enjoy crafts-based activities. In the restaurants children are welcomed with special menus and colouring books
Value for Money
Pretty expensive but value for money.
Worst Thing
The reception and some public areas are a bit dark.
