Graycliff Hotel

Nassau

Bahamas

On the first glimpse for most holiday-makers the Graycliff is a No-Go. What? A hotel on the Bahamas without a beach? No way. Nevertheless we think the Graycliff is a juwel you should not miss. We also think that in principle it is always interesting and fun to experience a destination from different angles. So we recomend the Graycliff as a luxury add-on to your Bahamian beach holidays. The 20 room mansion in the heart of Nassau dates back to 1740 and became an inn in 1844. Nowadays the Graycliff is famous for it´s gourmet restaurant and the biggest wine cellar in the Caribbean. There are also guided tours to the wine cellar. Some celebrities like Nicolas Cage or Beyonce are said to have spent a fortune on rare wines from the “millionaires row” in the cellar of the Graycliff. So what can you expect as a hotelguest? Well, two pools, a shop with Graycliff chocolates, a little cigar factory outside, three restaurants, often live jazz music in the evening. There is also a small fitness center. The 20 spacious rooms look all different and are stuffed with antiquities but there are also modern features. The bathrooms boast Bulgari amenities, bathrobes, double vanity sinks. So all in all: This small upscale hotel is a perfect extra-topping for a Bahamas holidays from where you can explore Nassau and its shops and restaurants very easily and where you can try to get the feel of the old times when Captain John Howard Graysmith, a notorious pirate and master of the schooner Graywolf, had his heydays in the 1740ies (more about the history in our movie).

Endless wisdom in a nutshell

Best Time
The peak season is mid-December to April. If you favour cheap rates choose the period between June and November: You may get a hurrican for free (but less tourists and sometimes fine weather, too)
Best Rate
From 350 Euros in low season, from 440 in high season.

Indicative – subject to change.

Best Room
All rooms spacious (minimum 37 sqm) and oldfashioned. Our favourite: A Suite with balcony, garden- and pool view, 65 sqm. Most expensive: Graycliff suite, 93 sqm
Getting there
There is a private airport lounge for hotel guests! 30 minutes transfer time.
Best Excursion

See the Bahamas and the beautiful colour of the sea from a helicopter. Helicopter sightseeing tours start from 615 Euro (699 $)

Good for Children
Not really. But children are allowed.
Value for Money
It is an upscale, pricey place attracting well-off and sometimes famous guests mainly by the gourmet restaurant and the old world charm.
Worst Thing
Not a quiet place, think of music in the evening. Shuttle to the beach will be charged extra. Some will consider it stuffy and oldfashioned but then you should not go to a heritage hotel like this. No spa.

Breathtaking Hotels.
