San Domenico Palace (Four Seasons)

Taormina

Sicily

Imagine a 14th century monastery carved into a steep cliff overlooking the Ionian sea. Imagine monk cells furnitured and designed by Four Seasons. Imagine a phantastic view to Europe´s most active vulcano. Imagine a beautiful subtropical cloister garden and gentle italian live music in warm summer evenings. Well that is the San Domenico Palace Taormina, recently taken over and refurbished by Four Seasons. The property boasts 111 rooms and suits, a pool, a spa, elegance and a lot of history wherever you go. If you walk along the broad, long corridors in this monastery turned into a hotel in 1896 you can easily time travel a little bit and imagine monks passing by. Foodwise you will not be disappointed. There are three restaurants: Il Giardino dei Limoni is perfect for a light mediterranean lunch out in the gardens. Il Giardino dei Limoni serves Sicilian dishes and for Mr. Paddington Sicilian cuisine is the best Italian cuisine. If you are up to fine dining in the evening the two Michelin-starred Principe Cerami, named after the Sicilian nobleman who converted the monastery into a hotel, would be the right choice. And for a nightly drink the inner court of the San Domenico Palace with it´s beautiful trees and plants is just a dream. All in all a very recomendable stay in a monk cell including an impeccable Four Season´s service.
