Strawberry Hill Jamaica

St. Andrew, Blue Mountains

Jamaica

High on top of a hill in the Blue Mountains Jamaica visitors who are not just interested in beaches find a colonial style hotel which was listed by the New York Times in its bestselling guide “1000 Places To See Before You Die”. Strawberry Hill is nestled in the now lush tropical gardens of a former 10 hektar (26 acres) coffee plantation and consists of 13 Georgian style wooden villas all furnitured with mahagonny peaces and nice fretwork. There are five categories ranging from two bedroom villas with terrace and kitchen to studios (37 sqm). Guests find a lot of privacy and there is also a great infinity pool and a little spa. The main building called Great House contains the main restaurant, the library and the “Gold Room”whose walls are filled with music awards and photographs of rock stars. When the founder of Island records Chris Blackwell bought the place it was a secluded playground for global stars in the music industry like the Rolling Stones, Bono or Bob Marley (watch our video-clip). So if you have dinner at the verandah of the Great house looking down at the twinkling lights of Kingston you might not only feel the magic of the Blue mountains but also the incredible star-history of this place. Mind it can get cool in the evenings as Strawberry Hill is located at 950 meter above sea-level (3100 feet). There are even electric blankets provided for cool days.

Endless wisdom in a nutshell

Best Time
In General: Avoid the rainy Hurrican season from August through October. Travel peak season and ideal for beach vaccation: mid December to April. For Luxury-Budget travellers: November until mid December, a dry season with great resort and flight deals.
Best Rate
From 250 Euros (studio) to 430 Euros (two bedroom villa) in low season.

Indicative – subject to change.

Best Room
Highgate two bedroom villa
Getting there
It is a one hour drive from Norman Manley International airport to Strawberry Hill (fare: 80-100 Euros). You might consider renting a car in Kingston to be independent. The drive from Kingston to Strawberry hill along a winding road will take only 30 minutes.
Best Excursion

Do a boat-safari on the Black River, Jamaica´s second longest river. Meet some crocodiles personally and get the Dr. No/James Bond feeling in the thick river jungle full of birds. The tour is often combined with a visit at the seven cascades of the YS Falls. Tour operators may charge around 120 Euro, 130-140 US-Dollars.

Good for Children
No special facilieties for kids. This is more an adult resort though kids are alllowed.
Value for Money
Absolutely. Would Strawberry hill have a beach rates would be double as high. So Strawberry hill is actually a bargain as most Jamaica visitors long for a beach vaccation.
Worst Thing
The infinity pool looks terrific on the pictures but in reality the water is often too cold as the hotel is 900 meters above sea level.

Breathtaking Hotels.
