The Okura Prestige

One of the Top 3 Hotels in the Thai capital and one of the most amazing pools in the world.

Bangkok, Thailand

This is definetly one of the three best luxury hotels in Bangkok and a fascinating experience. First because of the incredible suspended pool high up a skyscraper and second because you can experience authentic Japanese style and food right in the middle of Bangkok`s embassy and business district. The 240 room and suites property, opened in 2012, was the first superluxury hotel of the Japanese hotel chain Okura which runs 30 hotels, among them 6 luxury ones. There are several good reasons why we like this hotel. The location is top, no wonder that other luxury hotels like Park Hyatt oder Conrad are nearby. The rooms are really big (43 sqm is the size of the smallest ones). The service is impeccable. And yes Thai kitchen is great and we love it but nevertheless something different in great qualitiy is fine. The Okura Prestige boasts an international all day venue called “Up and above”, a Michelin starred french restaurant with a Japanese touch and a really authentic Japanese restaurant serving fish flown in from Tokyo`s most famous fish market. The gym offers like the rooms and the restaurants great views, the spa is compact but beautiful. And yes there is this incredible 25 meter pool up in the skies…

2
Jim Thompson House.
This jungly compound is the former home of the legendary American silk entrepreneur, architect, secret agent and art collector Jim Thompson who vanished mysteriously in the jungles of Malaysia in the 60ies. He left behind a fascinating complex of six traditional Thai teak houses in the middle of Bangkok one filled with treasures during his decades long love affair with Southeast Asia.Do on your own by taxi. Not far away from Okura Prestige. Adress: 6 Soi Kasem San 2. www.jimthompsonhouse.com

3
Combine with:
The Bangkokian Museum.
An off the beaten track gem of a museum in Khet Bang Rak made up of several small charming homes built in the thirties. Time travel back almost 100 years.Few visitors. It is at house number 273 on Soi Charoen Krung 43, five minutes away from the Sheraton Hotel.

Good for Children
Not really.
Value for Money
Absolutely. Compared with luxury properties in London, Tokyo or New York and given the size of the rooms the Okura Prestige seems to be a real bargain (thanks to the general price level in Thailand).
Worst Thing
Ironically the iconic pool disappointed us. In the dry season the water was simply a bit to chilly. Unexpected in a hot city like Bangkok.

Breathtaking Hotels.
