Victoria Falls Hotel

Victoria Falls

Zimbabwe

Far away from cities in the middle of nowhere the Zambesi river spills up to 100000 cubicmeters per second over the cliffs of a natural wonder: the Victoria Falls. At the edge of the Batoka Gorge stands dramatically a hotel built in 1904 to accommodate workers on the Cape to Cairo railway line once planned by Colonialist Cecil Rhodes. If there is a list of one hundred luxury hotels you should see in your life if you are happy enough to have the means for it this classic colonial beauty is a sure bet. The Victoria Falls Hotel is a juwel and enables its guest to travel back to a time when Africa had just a tenth of its population today and wild nature was prevailing. From the colonnaded verandah and the classical facade guests can feel the misty thunder of the Falls and sip a cup of tea. Inside a treasure trove of Edwardian décor, black and white photographs, and paintings from another era may enchant you. The 161 rooms of the hotel are located in two long wings to the left and to the right of the main lobby. The four poster beds, floral curtains and vintage writing desks generate a cosy and Colonial style. Apart from the 64 standard rooms (20 qm) and there are 18 suites that are slightly more modern and the suite bathrooms have a marble finish and separate showers. When it comes to dining there are different options: Inside you find the wonderfully decorated Livingstone room where alongside the á la carte dishes a seven course tasting menu is served and and smart casual attire is required.Light meals are served at the poolside restaurant and in the Jungle section, where you get breakfast, lunch and dinner, and where nightly dancing and drumming is part of a magic atmosphere when darkness falls over the Falls. We should also mention the elegant library, a little spa, two tennis courts and a fitness room. Victoria Falls Hotel is member of the Leading Hotels of the World.
