Do an off-road excursion to the Etna, one of Europe´s most active vulcanos, walk along old lava fields an experience a moonlike landscape.
The Belmond Crown jewel in Taormina, the Timeo, rests like “the center” of this picturesque village on top of a mountain. For those who prefer a beach hotel or who like both worlds Belmond has a second property around, the Villa Sant Andrea. It was built a century ago by a Cornish engineer as his private Italian hideaway and is now a luxurious and sizeable hotel with 71 rooms, marble floors and staircases, Baroque paintings and it feels a bit like an elegant british country house in Sicily. And though the Villa St. Andrea is accessed by a busy coast road it is set well below so you won´t hear traffic noise. There is a free hourly shuttle between the two Belmond properties so we consider it a perfect combination for a holiday. The beach is well serviced and there are also – rather pricey – “cabanas” where you can enjoy the a bit of privacy, order a delicous lobster and yet experience the beach, it´s people and of course the always fasinating sea. Most rooms have balconies and of course you should book seaview instead of garden view if you can afford it. We liked the beach bar and of course dinner is served outside it weather permits. There is also a small heated pool and all guests are invited to one free boat ride. All in all we consider both hotels a dream combination for a holiday.
Indicative – subject to change.
