Waldorf Astoria Beijing

Beijing

China

If you are looking for an elegant, luxurious top of the line-hotel and all that in a super central location the Waldorf Astoria Beijing is the right place. The westgate of the Forbidden City is just one kilometre in straight line away and the nearby underground line 5 will take you to tourists favourites like the Lama and the Confucius temple within ten minutes. Opened in 2014 the hotel tries to give you the impression of a boutique hotel though there are 176 rooms. Waldorf Astoria Beijing consists of two buildings divided by a little street. If you prefer the shortcuts to public spaces like the Brasserie 1893, the main and international restaurant, the Zijin chinese restaurant or the bar/cafe Peacock alley the main building would be the right choice. If you are in time travelling the second Hutong building is the right choice where luxury suites and rooms are inspired by the Quing dynasty. The rooms in general boast high quality furniture and design like Suzhou silk walls, black laquered wood. The hotel designers also appreciated art. Shandong painter Ling Jian’s androgynous face, a two meter painting inspired by Austrian painter Ernst Fuchs is a real eye-catcher. Our recomendation: Try the pool and the spa after your city explorations.

Endless wisdom in a nutshell

Best Time
April, may, june, september. In april there are occasionally greetings from sandstorms in the gobi desert. Flower lovers will appreciate the flower shows in Zhongshan Park, Jingshan Park and the Beijing Botanical Gardens in april and may. Winter can get cold in China`s capital with minus ten degrees celsius.
Best Rate
240 Euro in low season.

Indicative – subject to change.

Best Room
In General aks for west-facing rooms in higher floors. In particular: The Ambassador Suite has a living room that opens onto a terrace, along with a separate study and spacious lounge. Top of the money spending line: the Waldorf Astoria Hutong Villa
Getting there
The nearest airport is Beijing Capital International airport (PEK), transfer takes 20 minutes and costs around 20 Euros. However many big airlines use the new but more distant Daxing airport. The stunning hub designed by star architect Zara Hadid was opened in 2019 and is an attraction for itself.
Best Excursion

Great Wall super-exclusive: You have to book another great hotel, 60 km outside of Beijing, the Commune (by Hyatt) with an exklusive entrance to the Great Wall. Stars like Renee Zellweger, Anthony Minghella, Michelle Yeao, F1-dreiver Pablo Montoya, etc.

The largest Johnnie Walker House, Ch’ien Men 23, near Forbidden City. Super-elite.

Good for Children
Well, city hotels are never dreamland for smaller kids but the Waldorf Astoria Beijing offers babysitting, childrens menus and special chairs.
Value for Money
If time is money a super central location pays off. And when it comes to service, design and glam-feeling Waldorf Astoria Beijing is impeccable
Worst Thing
There is no real lobby just a reception desk. However you could relax at nearby Peacock Alley after a long and tiring flight.

Breathtaking Hotels.
